Harold Shuler, born summer of 1959 in Douglasville, Georgia, spent a few years in Augusta, Georgia, and then grew up in Cobb County, Georgia, where he attended South Cobb High School. He was the last of nine children, and his mother claims she ran out of names, so he was not honored with a given middle name. He has chosen a middle initial ‘G’ which stands for Gil, a shortened version of his mother’s maiden name—Gilstrap. Thus, H. G. Shuler is his pen name. After all, the storytellers were on his mother’s side of the family.
